What does medicare for all mean?
A Single Health Program
Everyone will be covered by one health insurance program, administered by the federal government, and have equal access to all medical services and treatments.
All services requiring a medical professional will be fully covered. You go to the doctor of your choice. Dental, vision, mental health, and pharmaceuticals are all included.
Free at the point of service
All healthcare costs will be financed through tax contributions based on ability to pay: no copays, no fees, no deductibles and no premiums. Ever.
Coverage for all United States residents — non-citizens included.
A jobs initiative and severance for those affected by the transition to government-run healthcare.
Who we are
Democratic Socialists for Medicare for All is a campaign organized and paid for by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). DSA is the largest and fastest growing socialist organization in the United States.
We are a member-funded, member-run, and democratically accountable organization that fights for a political agenda that puts working people at the center. We believe that if we are to take on the enormous power of our political elite and their billionaire donors we need an organization that truly represents the needs, aspirations and desires of the working-class majority.
We are organized into over 300 local groups across the country that organize and agitate for social reforms in our schools and neighborhoods, at the ballot-box and in our workplaces.
What we do
Democratic Socialists are campaigning to make single-payer Medicare for All healthcare a reality.
We work to pass federal legislation like Bernie Sanders’ Medicare for All Act of 2017.
We support fights for state single-payer reforms in California and New York, among others.
We door-knock and canvass our neighbors to gain support for Medicare for All.
We organize panels and town halls across the country to educate about the program.
We organize rallies and demonstrations to pressure politicians to support single-payer.
We work with a broad coalition of healthcare advocacy groups like the Labor Campaign for Single Payer, the Physicians for a National Health Program, National Nurses United, Healthcare NOW, and more.
Help us fight to replace our fractured and broken health system with a unified Medicare for All system.
In order to get our politicians to buck their billionaire donors and side with the majority, we have to threaten them with a mass political movement. But the movement we need cannot be built overnight. It will only be built through connecting with millions of people across the country, in their neighborhoods, town halls and workplaces.
That’s why we need each and every person to get involved. Winning Medicare for All will mean establishing a piece of real democratic socialism and building a broader working-class movement to take on the elite and the billionaire class. The fight is going to be long, and in many ways grueling. But it’s a fight we need to wage, and one that we intend to win!
